Marejka Shaevitz

Artist’s Bio

Marejka Hansen Shaevitz was born and raised in La Jolla, California. She developed an appreciation for art at a young age and her first part-time was as a sales-associate at the local art gallery, Gallery8. An avid creator as a child and teen, she largely set this passion aside while pursuing her formal education. She obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from Stanford University, Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Utah, and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Oregon State University. After completing a second Master’s Degree in Veterinary Clinical Sciences and completing a Comparative Oncology residency training from Purdue University, Marejka finally returned to her love of art!

Currently a Clinical Assistant Professor of Comparative Oncology at Purdue University, Marejka spends her creative time in her home studio. Her works range the gamut from calm and elemental to whimsical and bright. Many of her pieces are inspired by the beauty and amazingness of nature – at both the macroscopic and the microscopic levels. She employs a variety of techniques and explores both color and texture her works. Marejka loves to create really big pieces! Her husband, Adam, was her first art mentor and early on he advised her to “go big or go home,” and she never looked back. She particularly enjoys producing massive works inspired by microscopic views.
